Kiss Me Bag






Materials:
110 Yards/100 Meters Medium Weight Yarn
Crochet Hook US H (5.00 mm)

Gauge:
8 sc stitches x 8 sc rows = 2 inches (5.08cm)
Special Stitch:
Shell: 5 dc in one stitch
Crochet Pattern:
Base:
Start by chaining 32.
Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook, and in each ch across, turn: 31 sc
Rows 2-5: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn: 31 sc
By this point you should have a nice little strip of about 22cm/8.5″ long and 4 cm/1.5” wide. Do not fasten off. Work continues in rounds.
Body:
Round 1: Ch 1, sc in first sc (sk 2 sc, 5 dc in next sc [shell made], sk 2 sc, sc in next sc) 5 times, reaching end of the row. Continue work along width of the base. Sk 2 sc rows, shell in next, sk 2 sc rows. Sc in last sc of first row of base. Repeat (sk 2 sc, 5 dc in next sc [shell made], sk 2 sc, sc in next sc) 5 times, reaching end of the row on the other side. Continue work along side edge. Sk 2 sc rows, shell in next, sk 2 sc rows. Sl st in first sc of round 1: 12 shells and 12 sc
Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1dc), 2 dc in same stitch. Sk 2 dc, sc in next dc. (Sk 2 dc, shell in next sc.  Sk 2 dc, sc in next dc) 11 times. Skip 2 dc, 2 dc in same stitch as the first 3 dc of the row. sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 12 shells and 12 sc
Round 3: Ch 1, sc in first stitch (beginning ch-3 of previous round). (Sk 2 dc, shell in next sc. Sk 2 dc, sc in next dc.) around, replacing the last sc with a sl st to the first sc of the round: 12 shells and 12 sc
Rounds 4-9: Repeat rounds 2 and 3 three times. (Repeat the two rounds more or less times to make the bag larger or smaller, if desired.) Do not fasten off, continue on to making handles.
Handles:
Round 10: Ch 3 (counts as 1dc), 2 dc in same stitch. Sk 2 dc, sc in next dc. Sk 2 dc, shell in next sc.  Sk 2 dc, sc in next dc. Ch 11, sk 11 stitches, sc in next dc. (Sk 2 dc, shell in next sc.  Sk 2 dc, sc in next dc) 4 times. Ch 11, sk 11 stitches, sc in next dc. (Sk 2 dc, shell in next sc.  Sk 2 dc, sc in next dc) 3 times. Skip 2 dc, 2 dc in same stitch as the first 3 dc of the row.sl st in top of beginning ch-3: 10 shells.
Round 11: Ch 1, sc in same stitch. (Sk 2 stitches, shell in next stitch. Sk 2 stitches, sc in next stitch.) around, replacing the last sc with a sl st to the first sc of the round: 12 shells and 12 sc
Round 12: Ch 1, sc in each stitch around.
Finish off. Weave in ends. Add lining, if preferred. Make it even prettier by weaving ribbon through the shells, or by adding appliqu├ęs.
